Generating Datto EDR API tokens

Tokens are required to make API requests to the Datto cloud server. This article explains how to generate them from your EDR instance.

Creating tokens

Different workflows apply depending on your level of access to EDR. Select a workflow to continue.

IMPORTANT  Tokens expire one year from their creation date.

Follow this workflow if you're an admin user and you want to create an API token for yourself or someone else.

  1. Within the EDR platform, navigate to > Admin > Users & Tokens > API Tokens.

  2. A list of all API tokens created in your EDR instance will appear. Click Create new token.

  1. The Create new API token modal will open.

  2. Enter a token description. Then, click Create.

  3. The new token will appear one time. Click the hash value in the highlighted field to copy it to your clipboard. Then, store it in a secure location. You will not be able to access it a second time.

  1. Once your token has been copied and stored in a separate location, click Close. The token will appear in the API Tokens list.

Follow this workflow if you want to create an API token for your own use.

  1. Within the EDR platform, navigate to > My Profile > API Tokens.

  2. A list of all API tokens created under the currently logged-in account will appear. Click Create new token.

  1. The Create new API token modal will open.

  2. Enter a token description. Then, click Create.

  3. The new token will appear one time. Click the hash value in the highlighted field to copy it to your clipboard. Then, store it in a secure location. You will not be able to access it a second time.

  1. Once your token has been copied and stored in a separate location, click Close. The token will appear in the API Tokens list.
